Flower suggestions for summer wedding and graduation

by | Mar 10, 2010 | Resources, Market News, Ask Pahl's Market

My daughter is getting married in August, we are doing the Grooms Dinner at my home. I would like to do my annual baskets (which I have quite a few) and borders in corresponding colors that would relate to the wedding. Her colors are Dark Blue and White. My son is also graduating from Eastview this year so the colors would work perfectly for the Graduation open house! But that means I need something that would bloom for the entire summer! Any suggestions on flowers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Loretta

It sounds like it will be a busy summer at your house.  Here are some ideas for long blooming white and blue annuals.  I am assuming that your borders and baskets will be in full or part sun.  For borders consider white alyssum and the dark blue calibrachoa.  Both plants will spread and fill borders. Heliotrope (blue) and Marguerite Daisies (white) at the back of the borders will add a little height and interest.  Alternatively consider Victoria Blue and Victoria White Salvia for your taller plants.  In your baskets consider using “White Frost” Euphorbia, “Royal Blue” Nemesia and “Lucky White” lantana.  White wave petunias, and blue lobelia would also work well in baskets.
For shady spaces consider using a combination of torenia and bacopa.  Whatever plants you chose, please remember 2-3 weeks before the August
festivities you will want to cut back the plants in your baskets and fertilize the borders and baskets for a flush of new growth and blooms.
