This week’s share will contain a variety of head lettuce, to be used in your fresh green salads or wraps. Lettuce provides us with a small amount of dietary fiber and some carbohydrates. The darker the lettuce leaves, the higher in fiber, flavor, and nutritional value. Vitamin A and potassium are the most important nutrients in lettuce.
To store lettuce, wrap it, unwashed, in paper towels or a kitchen towel. If lettuce is wet, remember to blot dry before storing. Place in a plastic bag, unsealed, and store in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. Use within 2-3 days. Wash just before using.
