Harvest Highlights: Week 8 CSA News & Updates

by | Aug 27, 2024 | CSA Member Updates, Dee's Corner

A couple of quick reminders:

  • Please be sure to confirm the size of your share box with anyone picking it up on your behalf. We’ve had a few instances where Standard share members were shorted, with only Teaser shares remaining at pickup. The size is marked on the side of the boxes, but please reach out if you have any questions.
  • While our pickup locations handle box distribution, they don’t have detailed program information. We’re here to help from the farm. For any questions or concerns, please contact us directly at Pahl’s Market. You can reply to any email you’ve received or call Chris at (952) 431-4345.

We’re sorry that some of last week’s cantaloupe didn’t meet our quality standards. We’re addressing the issue to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Thank you for your patience as we strive to deliver the best produce possible.

Thank you to everyone who attended the sweet corn pick this past weekend and shared your stories with us! We hope you enjoyed the experience of harvesting your own corn. Were you surprised to discover that most stalks yield just one or two cobs? For those looking to savor sweet corn in the middle of winter, here’s the link to Grandma Pahl’s Frozen Sweet Corn recipe: Grandma Pahl’s Frozen Sweet Corn Recipe.

In this week’s share, we’re excited to introduce a couple of new additions to the season: eggplant and mini sweet bell peppers. The eggplant is versatile and can be grilled, roasted, or even used in a hearty ratatouille. The mini sweet bell peppers are perfect for snacking, adding to salads, or roasting for a burst of sweetness in your dishes.

In addition to these new arrivals, we’re bringing back some favorites: kale, kohlrabi, and jalapeños. The kale is great for salads, smoothies, or crispy kale chips, while the kohlrabi adds a satisfying crunch to slaws or can be enjoyed roasted. For those who like a bit of heat, our jalapeños are perfect for spicing up your meals, whether you’re making salsas, stuffed peppers, or adding a kick to your favorite dishes.

We hope these fresh, vibrant ingredients inspire you to get creative in the kitchen this week. As always, we love hearing about the meals you create with your CSA share, so feel free to share your recipes and experiences with us!
